He managed to successfully capture Mina and was about to absorb her but Kafka entered in the nick of time and saved her. Now Kafka as Kaiju No 8 is facing Kaiju No 9. This battle will be the deciding factor of this war because, with Kaiju No 9 gone, all of his Kaiju will also disappear.
