Tengen Barrier: All You Need to Know About It

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen covered two important arcs, the Star Vessel Arc and the Shibuya Incident Arc. After the end of the second season, JJK fans are very curious about the return of Gojo Satoru and the plan of Kenjaku that is already in action. We will be looking at one of the most confusing topics from the upcoming season, barriers, especially the Tengen Barrier.

Tengen has been a mysterious entity and his first appearance happened in the Star Plasma Vessel Arc of the second season. We saw how Tengen failed to merge with the Start Plasma Vessel. The upcoming season will bring forth the consequences of the failed merge of Tengen with the Vessel.

During the Shibuya Arc, Gojo got sealed and with him, the biggest barrier between the curses and humans has disappeared too. The presence of Gojo alone was keeping the cursed spirits in check but now an outburst of them will happen soon.

Itadori has also consumed 19 fingers of Sukuna which can hint at the fact that the return of Sukuna is also near. Tengen Barrier Explained

The Barrier Techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen

Barrier techniques are one of the most frequently seen techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen. Almost all major sorcerers are equipped with the technique of creating and holding a barrier. A barrier acts as a curtain between the outside world and the one inside it.

Once a barrier is created, it blocks almost all electrical signals and radio waves which cut off the communication entirely. The barrier also serves the purpose of containing the cursed energy that might be released within the barrier.

In Jujutsu Kaisen, all grade 1 and above can cast barriers. Among these, the strongest barrier techniques belong to Tengen and Kenjaku. The barrier of Tengen is a special one as it covers the entire of Japan and nothing escapes from within his barrier without his notice.

Tengen Barrier Explained In Easy Words:

Tengen Barrier stretches out across the border of Japan and covers the entire of Japan. The barrier of Tengen prevents cursed energy from leaving the country which makes Japan a place with the highest concentration of curses and cursed energy.

The Tengen Barrier also prevents the curses from growing at a faster rate and it also serves as the guard for the Toko School of Jujutsu. The Toky School has a containment center that consists of a wide range of cursed tools and other stuff which even include Sukuna’s finger and the remaining Cursed Womb Death Painting brothers.

The presence of the Tengen barrier prevents them from getting discovered. It also safeguards the school from external invasions. 12 years ago, when Tengen failed to merge with the Star Plasma Vessel due to the presence of Toji Zenin, was all part of the plan of Kenjaku.

Now that the Tengen is without a vessel, he has ascended to be an entirely different being. Earlier it was only possible for a Star Plasma Vessel to merge with Tengen but in the current state, Tengen can merge with anyone. Kenjaku wants to exploit this information and merge all the individuals of Japan with the Tengen barrier giving them either the power to use cursed energy or be a vessel like Itadori.

Involvement of Culling Games with Tengen Barrier Explained

The Culling Games is a ritual in which every individual must kill each other to survive and it will stretch out as long as until only one individual is remaining. This will cause a massive spike in the amount of cursed energy in the colonies within Culling Games.

Kenjaku can use his won cursed energy while he casts the Idle Transfiguration in the season 2 finale, but that will be an ineffective and inefficient technique. Therefore, he plans to use the Culling Games as a source of energy. Kenjaku will then use this cursed energy to merge the humans of Japan with Tengen’s barrier, making all of them capable of properly harnessing cursed energy.

Who is Stronger: Kenjaku or Tengen?

Both Kenjaku and Tengen are individuals who are over a 1000-year-old so they both have a deep history linked with each other. Tengen claimed that he is stronger than Kenjaku when it comes to barrier techniques but that is all that we know about their innate techniques.

After the failure of merging Tengen with Star Plasma Vessel, Tengen lost his physical body and his ability to fight with it. We will not be able to see Tengen fight against Kenjaku but even at his peak, Tengen would have lost against the present Kenjaku.

On one hand, where Tengen has the strongest barrier technique, Kenjaku has multiple techniques. Tengen might not prove very effective until someone such as Kenjaku has a large number of techniques and cursed spirits in his arsenal. This will be later proved in the series.

In the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, we will see Tengen and Kenjaku go against each other which ultimately results in the loss of Tengen. Both Choso and Yuki Tsukumo will guard Tengen but will eventually lose. Kenjaku will kill Yuki and Tengen and will heavily injure Choso. Therefore it can be easily concluded that Kenjaku is far stronger than Tengen.

Conclusion:

The Culling Games are just ahead and fans can hardly wait to see the battle royal that is going to take place in the colonies. Tengen’s barrier will play a very crucial role in Culling Games and its execution so it is gonna be an interesting watch.
